Poker Cards Tools of the Gambling
Poker cards have been part of the fabric of America since the days of its discovery. Poker cards are now the centerpiece of a gambling industry that rakes in over a billion dollars a year.
The game of poker cards dates back centuries to western European culture. The game of poker cards was exported from Europe to America when Queen Isabella lost a game of Hi/Lo to Christopher Columbus who then took the money from the Queen’s hocked jewels to set off for America in 1492. He made sure that there was a deck of poker cards on each of the three ships that he navigated to America. Of course, Columbus’ winning streak remained intact because, with respect to his voyage, he drew a royal flush.
Poker cards and poker games have been forever immortalized by the Western movies made in the middle of the 20th Century. These movies and television series depicted the Western settlers from the 19th Century in saloons and playing poker at poker tables. The popular “Maverick’ Western comedy series epitomized the Western settler as having a fascination or even a compulsion to drink liquor and play poker. Bret Maverick, played by famous leading man James Garner, made his income by beating townsfolk at poker, and he would travel from town to town with his deck of poker cards looking for his next victims. Of course, he always solved a crime or two along the way, but the stars of the show were Bret and his deck of cards.
Poker cards have become part of the American folklore over the years, and have played an important role in American heritage. Today, poker cards are the tools of the gambling casino parlor betting activity which serves to create a billion dollars annually for the owners of these gambling casinos and online gambling websites.
