Poker Straight Winning Hand at the Poker Table

The poker straight is one of the preferred poker hands among poker card aficionados around the world. Bettors have found that the poker straight is a winning poker hand at the poker table.

The old television western climatic scene portrayed several cowboys sitting around a poker table holding their poker hands when the viewer catches a glimpse of one of the poker players holing a poker straight. As player upon player show their final poker hand, the tension mounts. The next to last player, usually the “bad” guy, displays three of a kind and goes to haul the poker chips back to his place at the poker table. Then, the “hero” says: “Now, you just hold on there! I believe a poker straight beats your three of a kind.”

The poker straight has always been the winning poker hand of the regular player. Superstars such as movie hero figure, James Bond, would always top his opponent with a four-of-a-kind or a royal flush. However, the poker straight is among the preferred poker hands for players at the poker table in every corner of the world. The odds on drawing a poker straight on your initial poker hand are 1 in 255 chances. Obviously, your odds get better in getting a poker straight after the discard round.

The experts say that you should play for a straight poker hand if you get four cards in rank order off the deal because you have eight chances of securing the straight poker hand. For example, if your deal poker hand is 3, 4, 5, 6 and 9, it is advisable to discard the 9. You have four chances of securing a 2 and four chances of securing a 7. If the straight poker possibility is a middle card, as in the case of 2, 3, 4, 6 and 9, there should be no play for a 5 because you only have four chances of securing that card. Nevertheless, the poker straight remains a winning poker hand at the poker table.
